Beelink ME mini NAS: Drive Slots, SSDs and fnOS — What Fits and What to Buy
Compatibility data on this site last refreshed 2026-11-03 · reading time ~3 min
The Beelink ME mini is the palm-sized cube NAS that made fnOS hardware mainstream: a 99×99×99 mm all-flash box with six M.2 slots, an Intel N150 processor and dual 2.5GbE. In China it ships as the first officially fnOS-branded hardware (Fnnas × Beelink, August 2025); internationally Beelink sells it with Windows preloaded, and it runs fnOS, Proxmox, TrueNAS or plain Linux just as well.
Slot layout — the part every buyer gets wrong
- Six M.2 slots total, in two different roles. Slot 4 (marked SSD4) is the system slot: M.2 2280, PCIe 3.0 x2, and it DOES accept a SATA III M.2 SSD.
- The five storage slots are M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x1 each — NVMe only, NOT compatible with SATA M.2 SSDs.
- Each storage slot takes up to 4 TB, so storage tops out at 20 TB across five slots (Beelink markets 24 TB counting the sixth slot).
- All slots accept 2230, 2242 and 2280 lengths of the matching type.
- There is also 64 GB eMMC on board — enough to host the OS itself on some configurations.
What that means when you buy SSDs
Three practical rules. One: only the SSD4 slot takes SATA M.2 drives — every other slot needs NVMe. Two: the storage slots are PCIe 3.0 x1 (~1 GB/s), so paying for a PCIe 5.0 rocket is wasted money; a solid PCIe 3.0/4.0 value drive like the Crucial P3 Plus (the exact drive Beelink bundles) is the right class. Three: 4 TB is the per-slot ceiling — two 4 TB drives give you a mirrored 4 TB of very fast, silent storage.
SSD picks for the ME mini

- Crucial P3 Plus 4 TB NVMe (officially bundled by Beelink, PCIe 3.0-class value) — check price on Amazon
- WD Red SN700 / Samsung 990 tier: worthwhile only for the SSD4 system slot where you want endurance; storage slots are bandwidth-capped anyway.
fnOS on the ME mini
The Chinese configuration ships with fnOS preinstalled and uses the SSD4 slot (or eMMC) for the system — consistent with fnOS's installer defaults elsewhere (64 GB system partition recommended, 8 GB minimum). Western buyers installing fnOS themselves follow the standard installer: USB install media, Secure Boot off, wired network required. Our fnOS drive guide covers the no-whitelist policy; for SSD-class storage the same logic applies — fnOS does not restrict which NVMe drives you use.
Who the ME mini is for
Silence, size and power: no 3.5" spinning rust means the cube is effectively silent, and N150 sips power. The trade-offs are capacity (20-24 TB ceiling at NAS-HDD pricing per TB it is much pricier) and CPU (four small cores — fine for file serving, containers and a couple of streams; not a VM farm). If you need 100 TB of cheap rust, a 4-bay SATA NAS like the Fnnas BASIC4 or EVO4 — or any Synology/QNAP box in our database — is the better tool.

Quick answers
How many drive slots does the Beelink ME mini have?
Six M.2 slots: five storage slots (M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x1, NVMe only, up to 4 TB each) plus the SSD4 system slot (M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x2, also compatible with SATA III M.2 SSDs), plus 64 GB onboard eMMC.
Can I use SATA SSDs in the Beelink ME mini?
Only in the SSD4 system slot, which accepts SATA III M.2 drives. The five storage slots are NVMe-only — a SATA M.2 SSD will not be recognized in them.
What is the maximum storage of the ME mini?
4 TB per storage slot × 5 = 20 TB of storage (24 TB if you also count the sixth slot), with 64 GB eMMC for the OS.
Does the Beelink ME mini come with fnOS?
In China, yes — it is the first officially fnOS-branded hardware. International units ship with Windows but run fnOS, Proxmox, TrueNAS or Linux just fine; fnOS's installer treats it like any x86 box.
Which SSD should I buy for the ME mini?
A value PCIe 3.0/4.0 NVMe in M.2 2280 — the slots are PCIe 3.0 x1, so flagship drives are wasted. The Crucial P3 Plus (Beelink's own bundle choice) in 2 or 4 TB is the reference pick.
